Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean Pierre Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre is the third member of the New York State Assembly to test positive for coronavirus.

Jean-Pierre, who has resided over district 11 since 2014, got tested after a family member became ill. She received her diagnosis the day after returning home from a legislative session where they voted on bills pertaining to coronavirus.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, who reported the news on Thursday morning said he does not believe Jean-Pierre came into close contact with anyone and that her office along with the assembly chamber has undergone deep cleaning.

“I have spoken to Kimberly and she has told me that she is back home in her district self-quarantining and doing well,” said Heastie.

Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein and Assemblyman Charles Barron, who represent districts in Brooklyn, also tested positive.
