The classic horror flick “Candyman” is getting a sequel from the brilliant and twisted mind of Jordan Peele and Monkey paw Productions, and a teaser for the trailer has just been released.
Peele is producing the new film and co-writing it with Win Roselfeld, who served as the executive producer on the revamped “Twilight Zone” TV series. The movie will be directed by Nia DaCosta, who also directed “Little Woods” and “Top Boy.”
“In a broad sense of the word, this film will stand alone if you’ve never heard of a film called Candyman and will dovetail in a pretty complicated and interesting way to the original,” said Monkey paw creative director, Ian Cooper. “In short, I think this will really fit in with what we’re doing with ‘Us’ and did with ‘Get Out’ in a way that will be circuitous.”
The original 1992 film follows the story of a graduate student who learns about the story of Candyman, who is the son of an African slave. Candyman was murder by racists after having an affair with a white woman. His ghost then comes back to haunt those who say his name five times in a mirror.
