We are 17 days away from the highly anticipated live-action remake of “The Lion King,” and some serious photos of the cast staring down their characters were just released by the film’s director Jon Favereau.

We have Beyoncé beautifully and fiercely mirroring her character Nala, Simba’s love interest. But according to Favereau, she will be more than that. In an interview with Fandango back in June, he said Nala will have an integral role in the film.

Donald Glover, who plays the main role Simba, can be seen assertively mirroring the up and coming King of the jungle. Glover, a.k.a. Childish Gambino, is definitely showing a strong, heroic, do-what-I-got-to-do vibe in this photo.

Alfre Woodard, who plays Sarabi, Simba’s mother, is also said to have a more visible part in the film. Her expression is definitely that of a proud Black mother, and we can’t wait to see how she brings that energy to Sarabi in the movie.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is glaring down his character, the villain we love to hate, Scar. The villainous vibes they’re both giving off make us confident that Ejiofor nailed the role.

Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner and John Oliver play Pumbaa, Timon and Zazu and will likely bring their own brand of humor to their characters. We’re also looking forward to hearing their vocal skills on the big screen as they sing the original songs we know and love like “Hakuna Matata” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.”

Keegan-Michael Key, Eric Andre and Florence Kasumba are taking on the roles of Kamari, Azizi and Shenzi, the three wise-cracking hyenas.

The young King in the making played by JD McCrary, and young Nala played by “Us” actress Shahadi Wright Joseph, are seen adorably looking at their characters. You can clearly see the innocence and cuteness on both sides.

These pictures are not the only teasers that have fans pumped. A week ago, nostalgic feels bubbled up in many after the release of a new trailer that played Beyoncé and Donald Glover’s version of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

The rest of the track list was also released with one song labeled “TBA.” Favereau said the song will be an original one written and performed by Queen B herself. Elton John, who wrote and performed the classic song “Circle of Life,” also has another original song coming.
